Rich Godfrey – Bio

My career began in the communication department of Home Box Office (HBO) in New York City. I hit the ground running, helping guide the development of multimillion dollar marketing campaigns. I also, played a key role in making HBO’s in-house marketing department competitive with outside agencies and worked with communication professionals whose work I had previously studied and admired in school.

After leaving New York winters for Atlanta summers, I began working for a small design firm with gold in its future. As Vice President of Creative Services for Copeland Design, I managed the overall strategy, design, and production of Atlanta’s successful 1996 Olympic and SuperBowl XXVI bids.

My successful Olympic victory allowed me to start my own company, an Atlanta-based brand communication and design firm named FUSE, which I owned and operated with as many as nine employees, for ten years, until early 2002. After a few years as an entrepreneur, my client list read like a Who’s Who of America’s Fortune 500, including IBM, Coca-Cola, BellSouth, Kodak and UPS, to name a few.

Owning my own business was the perfect training ground to prepare for a job as Director of Communications and Recruitment at a nonprofit. Hands On Atlanta, consistent with my past experience, was an exercise in achieving major goals with limited resources. I oversaw a department of 7-10 staff members and, during my tenure at Hands On Atlanta, we tripled the amount of active volunteers, from 5,000 to over 15,000 each year, and promoted and executed over 25 major events, half of which accommodated between 10-16,000 participants.

Currently I own and operate Rich Godfrey Communication, where I now focus my attention on helping a small group of mid-size clients generate sales/revenue through marketing and communications.

I graduated from the Ringling College in Sarasota, Florida, with a degree in Communication Arts, and continued my education at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta. I have also taught Graphic Design at The Portfolio Center and Corporate Image at Georgia State University as a part-time instructor.
